WILF WILKINSON PEACE AWARD

The Wilf Wilkinson Peace Award was inaugurated following Past President Wilf Wilkinson’s  term as Rotary International President in the 2007-2008 Rotary year.  It was commissioned to honour him for his specific efforts in supporting  the fourth avenue of service, namely the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace.  Wilf has himself been honoured for these efforts, as he was the most recent recipient of the Donald MacRae Peace Award, annually bestowed by Rotary Zone 24 to recognize a significant demonstration of the advancement of the fourth object of Rotary through peace-making or humanitarian activity of international significance.

The Wilf Wilkinson Peace Award is given annually to a Rotarian, Rotary Club, friend of Rotary, or group in District 7070 that has, in the judgment of the District Governor, made a significant contribution to defending, preserving, nurturing and promoting a culture of peace and non-violence.  Previous winners of this award include:

  • Raseema Alam – Rotarian, Toronto-Earlscourt
  • War Child Canada – Dr.’s Erik Hoskins and Samantha Nutt
  • Craig and Marc Keilburger - Me to We
  • Jack Layton
  • Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish – The Gaza Doctor

The award presentation is made each year at Rotary District 7070 Conference.

Candidates for this award are nominated by district Rotary Clubs.  I would therefore ask each club President to share this information with their membership, and encourage nominations of a Rotarian, Rotary Club, friend of Rotary, or organization that merits consideration.  Nominations should be forwarded to my attention, and include reasons why the nominee should be considered.

Kindly forward nominations to:
